Uniting Leeds and Mexico for a food and art-based celebration of those loved and lost.

We invite you to join us and acclaimed artists from Mexico’s The Faro De Oriente for a feast and a sneak-peek at their latest collaboration.

The feast is the culmination of a two-week residency where artists from Bradford, Leeds and Mexico City have been working collaboratively with communities to remember those we have loved and lost, from heroes like David Bowie to legends like your nan. You can add to the artwork by bringing along a photo of someone you’ve lost, and there are crafting activities for those of you that want to have a go. Equally, feel free to sit back and immerse yourself in a little patch of Mexico.

Part of Leeds International Festival.

Friday 10 May, 6.30 - 8.30pm in the Merrion Centre (Unit 6). £15/£10 + booking fee

As part of our residency in the Merrion Centre, we'd like you to join us for dinner. Raise a glass of Mezcal, eat a menu that combines the best of Leeds and Mexico and see the brightly coloured sculptures the artists have created with people from across Yorkshire.

Bringing Day of the Dead colour and music to Leeds, whatever the weather, this meal is a chance to eat great food, chat to international artists and celebrate.

Book tickets for the Feast.

Time capsules are containers filled with objects which tell you about the people who made them. Once time capsules are filled they are hidden away or buried, and left for someone in the future to find. During this workshop you can make your own time capsule. Get inspiration from our Remembrance exhibition, and think about the objects that are important to you.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Leeds Ofrenda Workshops
Leeds Church Institute (LS1 6DG) Thursday 8 and Saturday 24 March, 7.00-8.30pm. FREE.
To celebrate Day of the Dead in Mexico, people build ‘Ofrendas’ to remember friends, family and people of significance.

Ofrendas are brightly coloured displays including tables filled with photographs, flowers, candles, food and significant objects. They are a central part of celebrating those we have loved and lost, from close family to our heroes from music or sport.

Come and build a Leeds Ofrenda. Bring photos of people you’d like to remember, from famous names like Frida Kahlo to close friends andfamily. Share memories and create an Ofrenda that asks what we value in Leeds. Ellie will be collecting suggestions of what significant objects or food to include in a Leeds Ofrenda from White Roses to Greggs pasties.

All ages faith and secular perspectives welcome.
